On May 2, 2016 Maryland’s First Lady Yumi Hogan hosted the First Lady’s Mental Health Awareness Youth Art Display in Annapolis. This event  featured talented student artwork with themes highlighting the importance of mental health awareness. The Foundation School’s student, Yasmeine Ford, was recognized by the First Lady for her award-winning artwork for the Children’s Mental Health Matters! campaign and we are so proud of her talents and dedication!

During the program, the First Lady delivered inspiring words regarding the transformative powers of art:

“Your artwork is an expression of your genuine self…It is my sincerest wish that this gallery serves as an inspiration and hope for our young artists to believe in themselves and follow their dreams.”

-First Lady Yumi Hogan

On behalf of The Foundation Schools staff and students, we would like to thank the Governor’s office and First Lady for hosting this event to bring awareness about the importance of mental health. We would also like to thank the Mental Health Association of Maryland and Maryland Coalition of Families for selecting our student’s artwork as the face of the Children’s Mental Health Matters! campaign. Like/follow us on Facebook and Twitter to discover other ways our students are celebrating Children’s Mental Health Awareness Week!
