Under the direction of the Director of Communications and Development, but working independently, the Development Assistant provides administrative and project support for the fundraising, marketing and public relations functions of the organization to achieve the goals of the Development Department. The Development Assistant has the primary responsibility for managing the department’s databases, mailing lists and software programs and for producing accurate and detailed reports. The Development Assistant provides support to the Director of Communications and Development on grant writing and reporting, creation of marketing materials and publications, website content, and the expansion and maintenance of a social media presence for the organization. The Assistant participates in planning and organizing fundraising events and develops relationships with internal and external stakeholders to maximize the effectiveness of the Development Department and to help meet the needs of our students. The Development Assistant also performs administrative tasks to support the organization as needed.
Education, Experience and Certification Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications or other related field or equivalent experience
Two years of relevant administrative experience, preferably in project management, fundraising, marketing or public relations
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with attention to detail and follow-through
Strong computer skills with a high degree of proficiency with programs including Word, Excel, Google Docs, and donor database software
Experience working with a variety of social media and fundraising platforms
Ability and willingness to learn and utilize new applications as necessary
A proven ability to multitask
Ability to organize and prioritize work in accordance with supervisory input and to meet deadlines while maintaining professionalism and poise
Experience researching, writing and editing grants preferred
