Aubrey McKoy has been a wonderful asset to The Foundation High School. Mr.
McKoy came on staff two years ago to teach Physical Education to our 9-12th
grade students in Largo but eagerly accepted the added responsibility of
leading a music club shortly after his arrival. The Foundation Schools offers
specialty clubs for students on the two Wednesdays per month that the schools
have an early dismissal. Chess and Basketball were already being offered
and the school was eager to make good use of Mr. McKoy’s skill as a musician. Six students had some previous experience playing musical instruments and enthusiastically joined the club. The students create original compositions as well as incorporate their own gospel-inspired style into popular songs. Five students now participate regularly and have formed the Foundation School Band. The band has played at the school talent show, holiday assembly and at the end of the year promotion ceremony. They provided a medley of songs from African American musicians throughout history for Black History Month, and they also did a wonderful job with their first outside appearance at The Art & Soul
of Learning 2007 Benefit. We want to recognize Mr. McKoy for his hard work
and for inspiring these students to work together to further their talents.
