Supporting
an alcohol and drug free community
Another Path's
focus is to help students to lead an alcohol
and drug-free lifestyle, to provide
clinical support to students who are struggling
with issues related to substance abuse and
to help ensure students' success in the Foundation
programs by maintaining a substance-free
environment. The program
includes random urine testing, intensive
specialized group therapy, pull out groups
to address indicated needs (i.e., At Risk,
Children of Alcoholics (COA), etc.), individual
therapy (in some cases), consultations by
substance
abuse counselors, 12 step meetings, parent
meetings, prevention activities, and curriculum
based substance abuse education. Counselors
also provide drug prevention and awareness
activities for the school population at large
and inservices and consultation to staff.
Prevention
of chemical experimentation and use can make
a significant impact on the problems of disrupted
attendance, poor academic performance, and
unsatisfactory adjustment to school. Another
Path's investment in the prevention and treatment
of chemical dependency within school programs
keeps students involved in education and
therefore more likely to function effectively
in the community.
